Linear Polarizers
Un-polarized light is a complex mixture of random wavefronts transverse to the line of travel. Linear polarizing filters selectively absorb light vibrations in certain planes. When light is passes though a linear polarizer its vibrations are confined to a single linear plane.
The linearly polarized light can then be used in application such as:
Continuously variable density of light. |
Optical instrumentation such as microscopes. |
Studio lighting and photography. |
Photo elastic stress analysis. |
3D projection and glasses. |

XP38 Linear Polarizer
This is a universal replacement material for Polaroid materials HN22, HN32, HN38, HN38s and HN42.
It is a very high efficiency polarizer for the visible spectrum 400 - 750 nm. Recommended for applications where a very high density in the crossed (extinction) position is as important as high transmittance in the open position.

Circular Polarizers
Circular polarizers modify ambient light as it passes through the filter and traps the mirror image on reflection from the surface of the display. The signal from the display is allowed to pass through the filter and appears as a bright image against a dark background.

Circular polarizers are highly effective at eliminating sun light "wash out" caused by ambient light reflected from the display.
Typical display types where circular polarizers are used include LED's, CRT's, electro luminescent, vacuum fluorescent and LCD.
The idea sunlight readability solution is achieved when a circular polarizer is combined with an anti-reflective or non-glare surface finish. Optical Filters use dry film lamination process to manufacture these custom solutions in glass and plastics.
HNCP37
Optical Filters can continue to offer Polaroid HNCP37 circular polarizer.
Neutral in colour the designation 37 refer to the approximate single pass light transmission at 550nm.
