High Performance Components for Industrial Applications

The Challenge

Carnegie Robotics were working to create an indoor stereo camera for robot autonomy. Built to be rugged, intelligent and to facilitate sensor solutions, the camera featured many special functions, including on-board processing, realtime 3D sensing, and the ability to operate in low light. 

However, enabling these functions required a state-of-the-art IR pattern projector. Without a specified IR pass filter to isolate projected infrared patterns, the robot would lose its ability to sense 3D in dynamic lighting, rendering it ineffective.

The Solution

Carnegie Robotics worked with Optical Filters to obtain a pass filter that would operate at the difficult levels required. Optical Filters’ Sales and Engineering team helped design the filter, picking plastic and coating options to ensure the robots’ functionality. Optical Filters manufactured the final parts, meeting lead time expectations and supplying quality products with additional enhancements, including Anti-Glare coating.
